The fours have been working quite a bit with recognizing our numbers. We've been making ten frames, to help us clump together groups of five and ten. And this week, we started number lines! This helps us realize number order and will be the base for addition and subtraction as they move to kindergarten. It also helps us to count and recognize our numbers. We always have fun when we get out the big dice!
We started out by calling out a number and the kids would then have to mark that number on their number line. Once we got the hang of using a number line, out came the dice! We would then roll our own numbers and find them on the number line. Then after a while, we rolled TWO dice and had to add them together. We did this part together and the kids did an amazing job. We would say the larger of the two numbers and then count up for the other number. We then marked our total on the number lines.
