Saint Journals

Each week we're introduced to a new Saint. We learn about their lives, interesting facts about them, and how we can be like them. We then add a drawing to our Saint journals. The kids love following the directed drawing directions and it's great to see we can hear the same directions but our pictures all look different. Many are being challenged in their art skills and are having so much fun.

Sense of Sight

We've been learning about the 5 senses. Last week, we focused on the sense of sight.  The kids tried taking an eye sight test, much like the ones they see in the doctor office. We talked about how people with low vision often use their other senses to help them navigate things. Then we tried it out, the kids were blindfolded and had to use their sense of touch and sound to open a bandaid and place it on their hand.  

The sense of touch became really important and the sense of sound helped them listen to helpful suggestions from friends.

Table Tubs

Each morning we have table tubs waiting for the kids. The tubs rotate from table to table during the week and are one of the favorite things each day.  On Monday, a new set of table tubs are brought out. 

The free play gives the kids a chance to use their imagination, work on fine motor skills, communicate with friends, work on sharing and using manners, and is a great opportunity for screen free play.  If you have any small toys or games that can be played in groups of 4-5 and no longer want them, we can definitely put them to good use in our classroom.

Grandparent Day

 We loved being able to celebrate Mass with our Grandparents! The kids gave tours around the school, proudly showed off the Brilliant Bee classroom, and created a Family Tree craft.  I apologize that I wasn't able to get photos of everyone, it was a busy morning.

Math Time

We do a lot of group and partner work in kindergarten.  It's a great and fun way to learn, as well as work on cooperation, listening skills, teamwork, conversation, etc.  Recently we worked in partners to build 10 Frames with playdoh. The kids took turns calling out numbers and the rest of the class built them on the ten frame cards. Plus playing with playdoh helps to improve fine motor skills in our hands and arms.
