4's--> Angel Garden
We had a visit from Mr. Lynch this week! He talked to us about how the food grown in the Angel Garden helps people in need in our area. We learned about the different kinds of veggies that are grown. We learned a little about composting. And we got to help harvest carrots. Mr. Lynch even let us have a strawberry taste test! They were so delicious. Once we get in 1st Grade, we'll be able to help plant in the spring and harvest even more of the veggies!
3's & 4's--> David and Goliath
This week, we started our David & Goliath studies in Religion. The Bible says that Goliath was over 9 feet tall! That's HUGE! To make sure the kids understood just how big that was and to know why King Saul's men were scared of him, they needed to know just how BIG 9' tall is. So Goliath came to visit us. He's so big that he can't completely fit inside of our room. Some of the 4's and even more of the 3's were nervous to stand next to Goliath. Just check out their faces and how close they really got to the giant!

3's--> Working with letters
Each week, we learn a new letter and review the previous letters. We have gone from A-D so far. Many of the 3's know or recognize the letters in their names, but the other letters are tough for them. This is a brand new skill and honestly many letters look similar! We will keep working on this throughout the year, but letter recognition is not something that most 3's will master. So, keep working with your child and just watch in amazement as they learn.
4's--> Patterns
The 4's have really been working on patterns! We have been making patterns with felt squares, color bears, and our story characters. When we change our calendar over to October, we'll work on patterns with our days. Patterns can be found everywhere! Talk to your child about patterns and try making some with items at home- leaves, color crayons, toys, etc.
3's & 4's--> Noah's Ark
Last week, we learned about Noah and his ark. We talked about how God made a promise to us that he would never flood the Earth again. He reminds us of his promise with a rainbow. We created our own arks--- we had to cut our our shapes, glue them on to build the ark, and added our animals. Some of us got very creative with how our arks were assembled!
4's--> Fall Assessments
Mrs. Timm and I have been checking where our preschoolers are at. Our goal is to get them "Kindergarten ready". The best way to do that, is to see where each one is individually, so we can tailor our lessons and table work to best meet the needs of the kiddos. This week, we checked cutting skills, writing skills (pencil grip, tracing lines), color identification, shape identification, number and letter identification. I will share this info with each family during our Nov. conferences. The kids did their best!!

3's--> The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Last week we started our "Caterpillar" unit. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and talked about different foods. We also worked on stringing our own caterpillars (AKA Apple Jacks) on yarn and some of us may have eaten a snack while we worked! ;)
We talked about AB patterns (red, green, red, green) while we made our caterpillars. Stringing our caterpillars really worked our hand muscles and our hand-eye coordination. It was tricky for some of us but we got BIG cheers from the teachers once we got it!

4's--> Working on Patterns
This past week we worked on AB patterns! Many of the kids had some trouble with saying a pattern. So, we used felt pieces to make the patterns and see the difference and how the pattern continues. Once we made a BIG pattern together, the kids got with a partner to make their AB patterns. This time around, they did great!
We will be continuing our pattern making throughout the school year. Once we master the AB patterns, we will work on ABC patterns and ABBA patterns. Beginning in October, our calendar time will also have patterns!!

3's- Letter Bb Week
Our three year olds are really getting the hang of our school routine. I have to be honest, the first week was hard! Learning how to walk down the hallway in a straight line is tough. Remembering to keep our voices quiet when we're really excited about something is almost impossible. But the threes now have it down! Yes, we still get a little loud especially when we're singing!
This past week was our B week. We read the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? and worked on making predictions. We also mastered our red color and was introduced to a rainbow of colors through our book. The kids know how to spell red and can definitely recognize a circle- NO straight lines!
We've been working on our fine motor skills by making letter Bb with playdoh and even filling in our letter Bb papers with stickers. It takes a lot of work to use our little fingers to roll the doh and peel off the sticker backs. These muscles need to get stronger to work our pencils and make our letters!
We also had a few visits from Father Romke. We LOVE when he stops in. We talked about the animals from our story with him. And he had some fun mixing up our animals. This week was also RED week!
Here's a glimpse of our week through photos....
