Domino Math

Another addition game that we like to play is Domino Math.  The dominoes are flipped upside down and the kids take turns flipping one over at a time.  Once it's flipped over, they say the addition math problem.  That is determined by the dots on the domino.  They then have to add the math problem and find the answer on the paper.  If there isn't an answer available, the domino is returned to the pile and the pile is moved around, to mix up the dominoes.

Math Dealers

This week we learned a simple math addition game using cards and dice.  The kids love playing math games.  We try to play a game 4 times a week when we're learning a new skill or reviewing.  After the game, we get to our paper/pencil work.  The kids worked in partners to play this game.  We removed the face cards of the deck.  Then the kids would flip 1 card over and roll the die.  They would tell the addition math problem and the answer.  If they got the answer correct, they got to the keep the card.  If they got it wrong, the card would go to the bottom of the deck.

EEKK

This week we learned how to EEKK!  Usually during our Guided Reading time, we read to ourselves.  However, this week we learned how to properly partner read.  We sit elbow, elbow, knee, knee.  We use appropriate voice levels, share the pictures and take turns reading our "Just Right" books.  The kids did great!

Grand Day

Each year our school has Grand Day.  This is an opportunity for the students to invite their Grandparents or special guest to our school.  We begin with a wonderful mass, followed by donuts and milk and ends with a class tour and activity.  Our class activity the students had an opportunity to paint a special tree with their special guest.  They chose their own paint colors and used their fingerprints to make the leaves.  The bottom of the paper says, "We are God's Masterpiece".  Thank you to EVERYONE who came and made our Grand Day so special.  The kids were so happy to share their guests with our class.
