3's & 4's--> November Turkies

     This month for our Family Project, we sent home turkeys.  They were to be decorated by the family.  It sounds like the kids had a blast with this project.  They were all so proud as they brought them back in to the class.  Plus, they were all so different from each other!  We also had a little birthday guy this past week!

4's--> Interactive Journals

     This week we changed up our journals a little!  While we're reviewing our letters, we make them interactive.  We cut our our "Apple Baskets", colored our "A" apples, and added "A" words under the basket.  We reviewed our letter A and A sounds while making our journals very colorful.

3's--> Dino Molds

     We've been working on our Dinosaur Unit.  Today, we got to be a dinosaur scientist, a paleontologist!  We talked about how dinosaurs are no longer alive, but we can learn from their bones.  The bones are taken to museums and studied.  We also know that the bones are fragile and are sometimes missing.  So the scientists will make molds to help them.  Today, we got to make our very own dinosaur molds!

     First we placed our dinosaurs in the playdoh.  This was just like how the dinosaurs would die and then get buried by the dirt.  They would sometimes leave impressions in the dirt (aka playdoh)!  We used our math skills and counted how many scoops of plaster and water we need to mix up.  Then we got to mix the plaster.  The best part was pouring the plaster over our playdoh impressions.

Happy Birthday Yesenia!

4's--> Whole & Part

     This week, we've been working on whole and part.  All of the kids know how puzzles work.  You need many parts to make the whole puzzle.  But they didn't understand that whole and part goes to more than just puzzles!  This works with recipes, math, pies, and more.  We talked about how you can break a whole into parts by cutting our "puzzle" in to pieces.  They we worked on taking the parts and making it whole again by completing our puzzles.  Even though the puzzles were only 6 pieces, this was harder than they thought.  There was no picture to go off of to choose the pieces.  And for those of us that struggle with our scissor skills, our puzzle lines were a little bumpy.  So, this is a skill that we need to work on more!

4's--> La Tortuga Painting

     We finished our La Tortuga (turtle) unit with some fun water color painting.  It's always great to see the creativity of the kids.  They get to choose their own color combinations, the shades of the paint, and if they want to add anything.  Several students decided to paint grass for the turtle to stand on.  Some painted the turtle in water and a few made the sun.
