Penguin Blubber Experiment

We learned about how penguins stay warm in cold environments.  They have blubber!  The blubber is a thick type of fat that keeps the body warm and dry.  We did a little experiment to see if blubber does keep us warm.  We had blubber in a baggie and an ice cold tub of water  We placed our hand in a different baggie (so we wouldn't get slimy) and placed that baggie in the blubber baggie.  We then placed our blubber hand and our bare hand into the ice water.  There was a DEFINITE difference!!

Penguin Reports

Our first graders have been learning about penguins- all 17 types!  We did some research at school and each was to finish at home.  We learned about their predators, what they eat, their sizes, environment, babies and so much more.  When we were done learning about the penguins, each student did an oral report with 5 facts that they learned.  They also drew a penguin, with some help, for their report.
